12. The Kansas City Strangler: The Victims of Lorenzo Gilyard Jr.

Crime Soup Season 1 Episode 12

Between 1977 and 1990, Kansas City police had an unprecedented number of murdered women and girls on their hands whose cases remained unsolved. In that 13-year span, there were 72 open cases of femicide.

In 2001, the Kansas City Police Department received a million-dollar federal grant to help close local cold cases which led to extensive DNA testing, which is how 12 of these victims could finally be connected  to one man: Lorenzo Gilyard Jr, now known as "The Kansas City Strangler."
